Character Limits in SMS Sendout

Basic Character

When creating your SMS sendouts, you can freely use the below basic characters. One SMS consisting of only Basic Characters has a character limit of: 160.

Extended Characters – Extended characters are counted as two basic characters.

Non-Basic Character

If you want to include other characters in your SMS except for the Basic characters above, the character limit for one SMS is reduced to: 70.

Non-basic characters include: 

 

  • Special characters like: ‘ and “
  • Emojis: 🤓🤞📈
  • Characters from foreign languages: 中國語한국È

and other characters exclusively used for other languages.

For Multi-part SMS

If your SMS exceeds 160 character counts, it will be divided into multiple parts due to the count limit mentioned above. The number of SMS parts divided depends on the aggregate character count of your SMS. To the recipient, it looks like one long message. 

* Even a multi-part message cannot exceed 2000 characters.
